“My assemblages are focused on what archeologist Marija Gimbutas called the language of the goddess. The many Paleolithic and Neolithic symbols discovered on artifacts from a European prehistoric culture that was female-centered, peaceful and egalitarian. My hope is that we will return to our own version of that ancient time when society revered women, animals and the environment. ”

"Chicago Jane" is a response to the belief that all people should have personal control over their reproductive health and decisions. This figure is comprised of a bull's head - Gimbutas argues that millennia ago, the shape of the bull’s head represented the uterus and fallopian tubes. The cloak is covered with ancient to contemporary images and markings from the water symbols (wavy M & concentric circles) representing the uterine moisture from where all life is spon, an interior stuffed with reproductive pharmaceutical paraphernalia, and lastly hooves represented by stirrups from a 1970's OB/GYN exam table (the era of The Pill and Roe V. Wade).

Meth Mootrality (Copy)

There are approximately 1.5 billion cows on Earth, each with 4 stomachs. That’s 6 billion stomachs producing 30% methane emissions worldwide each day. Methane traps more heat than CO2 a known cause of climate change. Currently, the sole purpose of 26 percent of the terrestrial surface of our planet is to feed grazers. Personally, I choose not to eat meat but for those who want to continue, there is a pill, not for themselves but for the cows - Mootral™ - a pharmaceutical that neutralizes the harmful belches from our beloved ruminants, making their carbon footprint a lot less harmful. To me this seems like a band-aid on a dire wound, but in the meantime, a good 'moove'.
